Health profile and password: how your account is protected

Cover: Health profile and password: how your account is protected

Which health details you can add to Despendo's family profile, how they are protected and how to recover your password if you forget it.

When you set up your pantry you are also building a list of people: who they are, what they need and what they cannot eat. That information is sensitive, so it helps to know what is saved, how it is protected and what to do if you lose access to your account.

What you can add to the family profile

For each person in your home you can record name, age, sex and activity level, plus four health details: allergies, medications, blood type and conditions. The health ones are optional. They help you keep everything in one place in case of an emergency, and remember what should never be forgotten on a shopping list.

Add only what you would really want at hand. Despendo's profile does not replace a medical record or your doctor's instructions.

How that data is protected

Allergies, medications, blood type and conditions are encrypted before they are saved (with AES-256). That means they are not stored as readable text; the app decrypts them to show them to you when you log in. The encryption key lives in a server folder outside the web, and each account uses its own derived key.

One honest clarification: this is server-side encryption, not end-to-end. The key is handled by Despendo, not by your device. It protects stored data, but it does not change the fact that the app has to be able to read it to show it to you.

And one more thing: when you use the AI estimate, that text never includes family members' names, emails, blood type or allergies.

Who sees it

You and, if you use the family group, the person you invited: they share your pantry and, with it, your family profiles. If you remove them from the group, they lose access right away.

If you forget your password

On the login screen there is a link to recover it. You type your account email and, if it exists, you get a message with a one-time link valid for 1 hour. The answer on screen is the same whether or not the email exists, so nobody can use the form to find out who has an account. When you change the password, we notify you by email.

That is why it is worth using an email you really have access to and keeping it up to date. Note: changing the password does not close sessions already open on other devices.

Habits that help

  • Use a password you do not use on other sites.
  • Do not share your login: if someone else will use the pantry, invite them with the family group so they get their own.
  • Log out if you use a device that is not yours.
  • See how we handle data in the privacy policy.
