Cover: Family group in Despendo: how to invite someone

How to invite one person to your Despendo pantry, what they can do, how to remove them and which rules the family group has.

In almost every home at least two people move the pantry along: whoever does the shopping and whoever cooks, or whoever travels and whoever stays. Despendo's family group is for that: one more person joins your pantry with their own login, and you both see and edit the same thing.

What it is and what it is not

  • One invited person per account. They sign in with their own email and password; you do not share a login.
  • That person sees and edits the whole pantry: products, shelves, family profiles, rotation, garden and kit.
  • They pay nothing. Their access depends on the plan of the person who invited them. If that plan expires, the app locks for them too until it is renewed.
  • Only the owner (the person with the plan) can invite. And you need an active plan: during the free trial it is not available yet.

How to invite someone

  1. Open My subscription inside the app.
  2. Scroll down to the Family group block.
  3. Type the person's email and tap Send invitation. Before it goes out, the app reminds you of the rules.
  4. They get an email with a link that is valid for 7 days. If it does not arrive, you can resend it (up to three times) or cancel the invitation.

When the person accepts, you get an email too.

How the other person accepts

  • If they do not have an account: they open the link and tap Create my account. The email is already filled in and cannot be changed, because the invitation is for that address. They confirm the email, log in, open the invitation link again and tap Join the group.
  • If they already have an account: they log in with the same email and open the link.
  • If that account already has its own active plan, it has to run out (or be canceled) before joining. That way they do not lose what they already paid for.

The rules worth knowing

  • Only one person at a time. If there is already someone in the group, or a pending invitation, you cannot invite another.
  • Each email can be invited only once. If you remove that person later, or they decide to leave, they cannot come back to your group with that email. That is why the app asks you to confirm before inviting and before removing.
  • Each account has a limit of 3 different emails invited in total.
  • The edit PIN is a single one for the whole pantry: whoever edits needs to know it.

Removing someone or leaving the group

The owner opens My subscription, scrolls to Family group and taps Remove from group. The person loses access right away and we let them know by email. Their account is still theirs, but it becomes expired: to keep using Despendo they have to subscribe on their own.

Someone in the group can also leave whenever they want with the Leave group button; the effect is the same.

Who is it for?

For the couple who share the grocery run, for an adult child who helps with their parents' pantry, or for whoever looks after a relative's supplies. If what you want is to give someone their own year of Despendo, look at gift coupons instead.
