How it is calculated

Daily need comes from each person's age, sex and activity, using typical figures from nutrition guides. Each food is turned into calories with an average value per kilo. Days by calories are the stored calories divided by what you need per day.

Balanced days limit how much each group can contribute (for example, sugar no more than 10% and oil no more than 20%), following WHO recommendations and the classic storage lists. We explain it in detail in how days of food are calculated.

Frequently asked questions

How many calories does a person need per day?

It depends on age, sex and activity. As a reference, an adult needs between 1,800 and 2,800 kcal a day, and a child aged 4 to 8 about 1,400 to 1,600. This calculator uses typical figures from nutrition guides.

Why are my balanced days lower than the days by calories?

Because one food group is contributing more than is reasonable, for example a lot of sugar or oil. Nobody can live on sugar alone, so the excess does not count as extra days.

How much food should I store for 30 days?

Set your goal in step 3 and the calculator tells you how many kilos of grains, legumes, oil, sugar and powdered milk you need for your family, and how much you are missing.

Is my data saved?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and nothing is sent to any server.
