How to add the people in your home to Despendo and why your days of food, water and recipe servings depend on it.

Almost everything Despendo calculates depends on one question: how many people live in your home and what are they like? Your days of food, your days of water, the servings in recipes and your emergency plan all come from it. If the family is empty, the numbers stay at zero or at a guess.

Where it is

It used to be a tab. Now it is on Home, in the Your household card, under your days summary. Closed, it shows one line (“3 people · 6,100 kcal a day”); tap it and each person's profile opens. If you haven't added anyone yet, the card shows up open to guide your first step. This left the bottom bar with six tabs, easier to use with your thumb.

What to add

For each person in your home:

  • Name, so you can recognize them in the list.
  • Age and sex. They are used to estimate how many calories the person needs each day.
  • Activity level: sedentary, moderate or active.
  • Optional health details you want at hand in your emergency plan. They are not used in the AI recipes.

With that, Despendo adds up what your household needs each day and compares it with the calories you have stored. It is the calculation we explain in how days of food are calculated.

Good to know

  • It is a general estimate. It uses guideline ranges by age, sex and activity. It does not replace advice from a nutrition professional, especially with babies, pregnancy or illness.
  • Children count. A small child needs less than an adult, but counts: without them, your days of food come out higher than reality.
  • Pets are not included in these family food calculations.
  • If you invite someone to your family group, that person sees and edits the same family profiles you do.
  • If you used the free calculators before signing up, the app offers to add those people with one click. It uses a typical age per group: correct it in this card whenever you like.

What happens when the family changes

A baby is born, a child leaves for college, a grandparent moves in: edit the card and everything recalculates. If you have to change it often, it is the quickest way for your recipes and your autonomy to reflect the home as it is.
